12 Safety Tips For Newborn Photography That Every Parent Needs To Know! – Midland / Odessa Texas Maternity and Newborn Photography

12 Safety Tips For Newborn Photography That Every Parent Needs To Know

Whether you are a professional photographer or a parent who wants to take pictures of their own newborn, safety should always be your number one priority. Newborn photography can be a very rewarding experience, but it is important to be aware of the potential risks involved.
By following a few simple safety tips, you can ensure that your newborn photography session is safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. Keep reading to learn more about 12 safety tips for newborn photography that every parent needs to know!
1. Always have a spotter: No matter how skilled you are at handling newborns or posing them, always have another adult present as a spotter during the session.
2. Keep the temperature warm: A warm setting is essential for newborn photography. The ideal room temperature should be around 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. Avoid harmful props: Avoid using props that could harm the baby or irritate their sensitive skin, such as props with rough edges or those that are too heavy.
4. Don’t use harsh lighting:  For one it doesn’t look good at all for that soft baby look, but you will make baby uncomfortable as well.
5. Never force a pose: If a newborn seems uncomfortable in a particular pose, don’t force them to stay in it. Always prioritize the baby’s comfort and safety.
6. Use a clean and safe environment: Make sure the area where the photos are taken is clean, and free of any hazards, such as sharp objects or allergens.
7. Wash your hands: Before holding or posing a newborn, ensure that you wash your hands thoroughly to prevent the spread of germs.
8. Know your limits: If you’re not comfortable with a certain pose or technique, don’t attempt it. Only do what you know you can handle safely.
9. Keep the baby’s head supported: Always keep the baby’s head supported, particularly when they are being held or posed.
10. Keep the baby’s airway clear: It’s essential to ensure that the baby’s airway is always clear, particularly during posing or positioning.
11. Use a camera strap: Always use a camera strap to ensure you don’t drop your camera accidentally.  It could be devastating to have a heavy camera come down on a newborn.
12. Take breaks: Newborn photography sessions can become exhausting for both parents and photographers. Take breaks to rest and recharge as needed.
By following these safety tips, you can help ensure that your newborn photography session is safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. Remember that the safety of the baby should always come first, and your priority should be to capture beautiful, safe, and cherished memories that you can treasure for a lifetime.
