100 Day Celebration to me, and Why I Love Self Portraiture

Today marks a milestone I’ve been working toward with intention, courage, and a whole lot of self-reflection—100 days of quitting alcohol. As someone who has always found solace and expression through photography, especially self-portraiture, reaching this day feels like the beginning of a new chapter. My journey through a Midland TX sober lifestyle and self-portrait photography exploration has been transformative. And what better way to honor it than by creating an image that captures my growth, my joy, and the calm clarity that has come with sobriety? Additionally, I am treating my body, spirit, and mind like the temple God wanted me to treat it as.

Why Self-Portraiture Matters to Me

Living in Midland, Texas, I’ve learned to use creativity as a form of grounding. Self-portrait photography has become a space where I can slow down, reconnect with myself, and explore who I’m becoming through each phase of life. It’s more than a photograph—it’s an intentional pause.

Through each self-portrait session, I get to experiment with lighting, emotion, color, and storytelling. It’s a form of art therapy. This allows me to celebrate my identity, rebuild confidence, and capture the transformations that words sometimes fail to express.

My Journey to 100 Days Sober

Choosing to quit alcohol wasn’t about restriction—it was about freedom. Over the last 100 days, I’ve gained energy, mental clarity, and a renewed sense of presence. This milestone isn’t just about what I’ve left behind. It’s about everything I’m gaining, including insights from my Midland TX sober lifestyle and self-portrait photography exploration.

Creating a self-portrait to mark 100 days sober feels like a beautiful reminder that healing isn’t linear, but it is worth documenting. Photography allows me to express the pride I feel today and the hope I have for the future.

Here are things I’ve noticed since I quit.

  • My bank account is happier.
  • I lost 15 pounds without even trying.
  • I no longer have mid-day fatigue and less brain fog.
  • My mood, and spirit has been much healthier. Less anxiety and panic attack and the ability to face my problems in healthier ways.

Art and Self-Discovery in West Texas

Midland and the greater West Texas creative community have always inspired me. There’s something about the quiet desert skies and wide-open spaces that encourages introspection. This is why my Midland TX sober lifestyle and self-portrait photography exploration feels so fitting. It helps me stay present, grounded, and connected to my “why.”

My hope with starting this vulnerable information about myself is that this inspires you to document your journey, too. Whether through photography, writing, or any creative practice, your story is worth telling. Midland TX sober lifestyle and self-portrait photography exploration is my chosen path, and it might inspire your own creative journey.

Here’s to a wonderful and happy future—and all the self-portraits yet to come.
